Once the archway, light piers and additional 250 feet of aluminum fencing were ready to be installed on the highway overpass, the SSRG team took over. A no-fear approach to projects positioned us perfectly for the job ahead. Because installation required temporarily closing multiple highway lanes for the use of a 100-foot crane and two bucket lifts, our team worked overnight Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions. In addition to completing detailed work in the dark with headlamps, managing the flow of traffic on a busy interstate was one of the more complex aspects of the project. SSRG was responsible for a Maintenance of Traffic plan, which involved permitting that took 8 months to approve. We closely coordinated our efforts with both the state of Kentucky and federal government to ensure safety and efficiency on site. Despite these complexities, we completed the project one month ahead of schedule.
Featuring a 90-foot ornamental arch and intricate stainless steel logo, the custom signage on the KY-18 overpass over I-75 is believed to be the first of its kind in Kentucky.
When the City of Florence wanted to create a custom ornamental sign for the KY-18 overpass over I-75, they called on the master craftspeople and fearless experts of Stewart Iron Works and SSRG to bring their vision to life. This 90-foot archway, featuring the detailed City of Florence logo, was made from a combination of metal materials, including stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum. The Stewart Iron Works team used various fabrication methods to achieve the intricate logo design at such a large scale — the letter “R” alone weighed nearly 400 pounds! After much pre-planning, we fabricated and fully assembled the archway and sign at the Stewart shop, before disassembling it and sending it to be installed on site. By working out the kinks in a controlled environment, we streamlined the entire process, boosted quality control, and completed the project with zero injuries.
